Dealing with redundancy and putting yourself first during Covid-19
It's safe to say all of our lives have changed significantly during this last year. Whether you were doing amazing things or had exciting plans both personally and professionally, Coronavirus has probably disrupted it.
Estimates suggest that 940,000 redundancies could be made in the UK by the end of this year. We have been helping clients to get back in to work and secure some certainty during this time.
So, what can you do?
Take control of your mental state - this isn't your fault and it's not a reflection of your talents and worth. Your frame of mind has a massive impact on motivation levels and the impact of your efforts.
Set yourself some goals. Start with what type of role you wish to secure next... what industry are you interested in? What does your ideal next step look like in your mind? Having a clear goal(s) means your effort and energies are channeled.
Take the time to pat yourself on the back. Yes, goals are important but looking back at how far you have come is even more important. Without motivation and pride, you are less likely to set new goals or maintain your work ethic. Start simple - what have you done this week that made you proud or moved you closer to your goals?
When applying for roles, don't just send hundreds of generic applications out for any and every role. It can actually have a negative mental impact if you are receiving many 'rejections' due to the fact your experience isn't relevant to the the roles. It's also a great idea to set-up a simple application tracker to help you navigate the job search.
Make sure you go outside. Where possible, put time aside each day to go outside for some gentle exercise. It is amazing how much good can come fresh air and stretching your legs. Feeling energised, fresh and positive delivers real results to your personal and professional life.
